Game, set and match

Updated: Jul 5, 2018

Wimbledon will begin on the 2nd July and finish on the 15th July. There may be some competition in some households on who will be watching the football and who will be watching the tennis (however, there may be several big screens in the household).

Back in my youth, I used to love watching tennis and enjoyed the tension created by the deuce matches of Becker, Conners, Borg and Lendl. Not forgetting the mighty matches of the women: Navratilova, Evert, Graf, Seles and Martinez.

Many points, sets and games will be won and lost. Lots of grunting sounds will be made by males and female players. Several players will throw their bats on the ground in anger of the decisions made by the umpire, the poor ball boy or girl will have to watch their heads so as not to be hit by the ball travelling so fast and last but not least, approximately 28,000 kilos of English strawberries and 7,000 litres of fresh cream is served.

I have seen the prize money awarded to the players depending on how they finish at Wimbledon – if I become a quarter finalist that will be enough money to pay off the mortgage and have a holiday.

So, where is my racket and ball? Time to get practicing.
