International day of friendship is on the 30th July.
There are many benefits to friendships: they increase your sense of belonging and purpose, boost your happiness and reduce your stress, improve your self-confidence and self-worth, help you cope with traumas, such as divorce, serious illness, job loss or the death of a loved one and encourage you to change or avoid unhealthy lifestyle habits, such as excessive drinking or lack of exercise, amongst others.(www.Mayoclinic.org)
I have several friendships, some are closer than others and I value each one. I have friends who literally make me cry with laughter, which is always good when having an off day. Some friends are logical thinkers and help me sort out things going around in my head and some friends help me with different aspects of my business. All friendships are important to me.
The extracts of Lean on Me by Bill Wither's sums up what I believe friendships are about;
Lean on me, when you're not strong And I'll be your friend
I'll help you carry on For it won't be long
Till I'm gonna need
Somebody to lean on.
If there is a load you have to bear
That you can't carry
I'm right up the road
I'll share your load
If you just call me.
So just call on me brother, when you need a hand
We all need somebody to lean on
I just might have a problem that you'd understand
We all need somebody to lean on.
No person is an island and we all need a little help from our friends.
