So, just one week into the new year, how are you feeling? Happy to be back at work? Wish you had another few weeks off? Missing the family gatherings? Happy that they are over and preparing for the next family get together?
I had a very relaxing break and enjoyed having late nights and lie ins for nearly two weeks. The shocker was getting up at a time when I would have been deep in sleep. I shouldn’t complain too loudly, as I was working from home on my first day back. However, it was a little bit of a shock to the system.
This period of the year can be positive – a chance to start afresh. Or negative – the same old, same old – bills, unresolved problems, family issues that need to be discussed.
New Year’s resolutions are high on a lot of peoples to do list: get fitter, go on a diet, get a better job, have more time for themself/family, get out of debt. I wonder how many are broken within the first week. Sometimes the realisation that somethings are not meant to be done at the beginning of the new year with so much pressure to achieve can be very off putting.
My priority this year is to be very much in the moment. The past has gone, I can’t stress about the future, so the present is what I will embrace and enjoy. With so many things going on in the world, mental health, as well as physical health, is a high priority on my resolution list.
So whatever you have decided to do or not do for the new year, I hope that you have a good year.
